Whether you are on Grafana Cloud or a self-managed instance behind your own firewall, Assistant keeps the context of the page you are on, so you stay in the flow instead of restating what you are looking at.

Assistant for Cloud, on-prem, and OSS

Assistant is no longer a Grafana Cloud exclusive. It works across every way you run Grafana:

• Grafana Cloud: Assistant is built in and included on the forever-free plan, so you can open it and ask your first question right away.
• Self-managed Grafana Enterprise: run Assistant in the instance your team already operates, behind your own firewall.
• Grafana OSS: the open-source distribution gets the same Assistant, so you do not have to change platforms to use it.

Self-managed deployments use a hybrid model. Assistant runs as a plugin inside your own Grafana instance, and you connect it to a Grafana Cloud account with a one-click setup that handles the model backend. Your data sources and infrastructure stay in your environment: only the prompt and the query context needed to answer it leave your instance, not your underlying telemetry.

Assistant for dashboards, Explore, and incidents

Wherever it runs, Assistant reads the page you are on and works from there:

• Dashboards and panels: build a panel, adjust a visualisation, or explain what a chart is showing without leaving the board.
• Explore and Drilldown: turn a symptom into PromQL, LogQL, or TraceQL, then refine the query in place.
• Alerting and incidents: summarise what fired, why, and where to look next.

Because it carries the context of the current view, you ask about this service or this spike, not a generic question you first have to set up.

Assistant for your terminal, CI, and editors

The same Assistant reaches the tools where operational work already starts:

• gcx command line tool brings telemetry-aware agent work to your terminal and CI, so you can script questions and reviewable changes.
• MCP integrations let MCP-compatible editors, agents, and custom tools ask Grafana for context and pass structured work back.
